Literature Text

Inside each one of us lies a dark side, sleeping in the shade of the subconscious, awaiting the right calling, waiting to be summoned. For some, it may never wake up. For others, it is as natural as the air we breathe. Most people choose to fear their inner monsters. Those who accepted them as their truths are often viewed as the crazy ones. Yet, in all actuality, humanoids are quite capable of executing the cruelest of tortures to each other, with or without unleashing their inner demon. Finding new ways to hurt each other is what humanity was always good at.

For me however, the dark side is no foe. It is my partner, walking alongside me in the shade, trailing not far behind underneath the sunlit sky. To be what I am, I had to abandon my humanity, and take it back on command. Maybe that's why I feel so strange? Whatever it may be, I stopped feeling remorse for my kills long ago. An assassin who can't kill is dead weight already. Our world revolves around one single truth; kill or be killed.

It was cold in here; my comrades had turned up the AC. In the background, I could hear my favorite song playing on the radio. I can't believe we had to use it, just so we could cover up this man's cries.

Office hours were over long ago; a perfect opening for a kill like this. My comrades, the fellow Black Ravens dragged his body out the window. I wiped my prints off every surface possible. The song was still playing. I stopped for a moment. The cool breeze from the AC crawled beneath my jacket and t-shirt, sending chills down my spine. I didn't know what they were for; was I scared, excited, or maybe even remorseful? It's too hard to tell.

My fellow assassins left long ago. Only I stood there in the dark, all cameras around me deactivated. I chuckled. My phone vibrated in my pocket. Someone sent me a message.

I pulled it out of my pants, looking at the notification:

"Three;s a crowd,
So one must go."

It was already night. I heard sirens in the distance. Guess I won't be going home tonight...
In this Act, Blake is starting to question the nature of assassins. He receives a mysterious text after he just murdered a rich business man.
