(Blake Fenris)
Who am I to judge what is wrong or right? I myself, am walking one thin line between light and darkness, always tempted by one or the other. In truth, where do I lie in all this? Who, or what am I supposed to be? Ugh... All these questions boiling inside my mind. I guess I can wait and see how all this plays out.

The hour grew late, as I heard the large, digital clock ring nine times. Four hours remained before the dawn if a new day. I sat on a bench in the crossing, on the lookout for an old friend of mine, when all of a sudden, someone sat down on the spot next to me. I smiled upon seeing this similarity clothed elf. Just like me, he adorned a sleeveless jacket, effortlessly worn over a white polo. However, while his shirt had a collar, mine did not. Another difference was something around our necks; he wore a bright, scarlet scarf, while I enjoyed rocking three beautifully crafted dog tags on a chain.

"Well hello Damian," I exclaimed. He looked up at me, his eyes ever so sorrowful. "Saw what happened on the news bro... I'm sorry you couldn't save them..." As always, not a single word came out his mouth. Tired and annoyed, I dragged him by the arm, and off the bench.

"Come on!" I told him. "Let's cheer you up a little! I know this sweet shop right around the corner. Your wishes, are my command." I gave him a gentle tap on the shoulder. Finally, he cracked a smile. "Let's go!" I exclaimed, holding out my hand. A second later, I felt his unusually cold fingers interlaced with mine. As always, I was greeted by sweat covered palms, and surprisingly well kept nails. Through his frail, trembling fingers, an inexplicable current of energy migrated towards my own, burning hand. His very soul gifted my every magical channel with a flowing river of power, coursing through my veins faster than waterfalls down a mountain. However, what seemed like an eternity to me was only a fraction of a second is this so-called “real world.” No regular mortal could understand the powerful forces at work between our interwoven fingers.

“How much longer are you going to keep doing that?” he asked. I snickered, pulling him off the bench.

“I’ll keep doing that until you learn how to use fire magic,” I replied, poking him in the chest, all the while showing my fangs. “Until then, you’re my prison bitch.”

It was his turn to chuckle. “Don’t you dare get any bright ideas, Blake. I don’t care if you are the Phoenix Guardian; you are not ‘bringing me back to life.’ Are you done absorbing my surplus Mana?” I nodded, smiling. “What’s wrong?” I added, followed with a wink. “Are you afraid to feel the burn?” Both he and I let go of each other, standing in close proximity to one another. All around us, the living, breathing world twirled at a tremendous pace, with all of its bright lights, loud noises, and empty beings.

Unlike Damian, who expressed hatred towards humanity, I sit by the sidelines, and watch what happens. I don’t think of humanoids as trash, but more as monkeys in a zoo. After a while however, it becomes too boring and violent to enjoy. That’s when I step in. I make sure all these monkeys play fair. I dare not consider myself a hero, but feel like I haven’t done enough wrong to be evil. I stay true to the my calling as a Guardian, standing by the borders of all these crossings, awaiting for someone to employ me as their mercenary. That said, I have my own laws and limits, of which I abide by.

“You said you wanted a pocket watch, right?” I asked. Damian’s empty, brown eyes were suddenly lit up by a spark of life. “I know just the place. Follow me.” And just like that, we vanished in the space of a blink. Nobody noticed, and I am certain nobody cared.
In this scene, Blake finds his old friend Damian, and drags him away from the crossing.
